The Office of Information and Reporting Services collects data on the Department and various program offices behalf in order to meet required Federal, State, and Commissioner's Regulations reporting. The office needs to determine business needs, requirements, develop collection forms in electronic applications, provide customer support to stakeholder reporting data. Once data are collected various analytics are done as well as data cleaning in order to publicly report data. Data is shared on NYSED webpages, via FOILS, data requests and data sharing agreements.
We are looking for an intern who can learn how to leverage MS Office Suite applications to make work more efficient and organized. This intern would engage in online trainings and research how other companies use these applications to support their work. They would then develop office trainings and tip sheets for office staff. These trainings would demonstrate ways in which different MS applications are used to make work more efficient and organized. Training would also demonstrate how various MS applications work together or how information can be shared between two different applications. Also we would want the intern to research how Copilot can be leveraged to develop key insights or data findings on data reports our office produces and research how Copilot can be used to summarize email conversation threads. The intern would develop process guides for staff to follow in order to prompt Copilot to do these tasks.
They will finish their internship with skills in:
- Public speaking and presenting,
- Increased knowledge of how to leverage AI in ones work, Increased skills and knowledge of MS Office Suite applications,
- Skills in training a diverse group of people with differing skill levels, and Increased organizations skills.
The intern will learn about the work of our office and the different steps involved in the life cycle or data collection to reporting. They will an opportunity to interact with our data sets and will help to identify key findings and trend in our education data. This could lay the foundation for any future research or data work they may engage in during their studies.
Interns will also be allow to participate in any department wide training that will assist with their work.
Should have knowledge and use of Microsoft 365. Someone who is organized and has good communication and writing skills. Someone who is okay with presenting to a group and teaching other new skills. Someone who has an interest in data and or research.
Interns may work a maximum of 29 hours each week (25 hours weekly maximum if enrolled at SUNY Albany). Specific schedules can be coordinated directly with the supervisor.
Undergraduates will earn $16/hour, Graduate students will earn $19/hour.
